I and mama made apple pie before. But that was 2-3years ago. Now mama decided to make apple pie but because she was so busy for the sending victims that she can’t bake apple pie for us. Now she has time she decided to make one.
She bought ingredients for the apple pie. We made happily and full of excitements. I was so very excited to eat apple pie. The first apple pie we made was on February 1, 2012. It was just simple yet delicious. Kuya can’t help because he has to go to school. I don’t need to go to school after founder’s week and I am surely tired because of it. Mama and I finished the hot yummy pie. Mama, papa, kuya and I ate the pie.

The second time me and mama made the pie, it was better than the first. We made the decorations a little different than the first. But the taste was completely different. Still I love the apple pie. And papa is waiting impatiently to eat mama’s delicious pie.
We were thankful mama and I had time to make some pie. Next time I will make my own pie.

After New Year I start having high fever and cold. Mama let me took some tablet for fever and we went back to bed. I got better but only for few hours. After few days I got cough. Mama decided not sending me to school not unless I am okay. Mama, Ate Rowena and I decided for a checkup so we went to the Hospital Child for checkup.

It was our turn when I start having nose bleed the doctor said that I must be admitted. I was put in a wheelchair and straight to the emergency room. They inject me for my dextrose and let me wait for a while. Then a young lady comes to me to get me some blood to see if I am leading to dengue fever or pneumonia. Then they lay me on the emergency bed still holding some tissue paper and crying cause papa was not there with me.

And we are still waiting for a room even just an extension so I can rest. A lady came to me and checks my dextrose so they know when to change it. Mama always go there down stairs and up again for the results of the blood testing and urinary testing but they always say “wait”. So I just rest and trying to wait for a private room so I can stay there. They also gave me a ice bag to cool my head down cause I still have fever.

When we are in the private room mama said that papa was coming so I was excited. Papa and kuya knocked at the door and I was so happy papa was there and I hug him with my left hand. Mama bought me some grapes and apples too. Papa said “Daisy is a tequila girl, because the dextrose looks like tequila. Lolo roger also went there and greeted me hello gave me a toy. I was thankful for visiting me. And sometimes the doctor will go to the room and tell the results and give some advice.

I was out safely and surely good thing I was well quickly. It was like a challenge for me. Know I am well I will be extra careful for my body.
Love Daisy

Instinct animals
I was reading this amazing book papa gave me for Christmas. There I read answers about almost anything. When I reach the instinct pages I learned a lot from it. Of course I want to share the story of the instinct animals.

Tyrannosaurus Rex (extinct 65 million years ago) [Wiki]
Tyrannosaurus rec was one of the largest land carnivores of all time, measuring up to 43.3 feet long, and 16.6 ft tall, with an estimated mass that goes up to 7 tons. Like other tyrannosaur ids, Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal carnivore with a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Relative to the large and powerful hind limbs, Tyrannosaurus forelimbs were small and they retained only two digits.
Fossils of T. Rex have been found in North American rock formations dating to the last three million years of the Cretaceous Period at the end of the Maastrichtian stage, approximately 68.5 to 65.5 million years ago; it was among the last dinosaurs to exist prior to the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event. More than 30 specimens of T. Rex have been identified, some of which are nearly complete skeletons. Some researchers have discovered soft tissue as well. The abundance of fossil material has allowed significant research into many aspects of its biology, including life history and bio mechanics.

Quagga: half zebra, half horse (extinct since 1883) [Wiki]
One of Africa’s most famous extinct animals, the quagga was a subspecies of the plains zebra, which was once found in great numbers in South Africa’s Cape Province and the southern part of the Orange Free State. It was distinguished from other zebras by having the usual vivid marks on the front part of the body only. In the mid-section, the stripes faded and the dark, inter-stripe spaces became wider, and the hindquarters were a plain brown. The name comes from a Khoikhoi word for zebra and is onomatopoeic, being said to resemble the quagga’s call. The quagga was originally classified as an individual species, Equuleus quagga, in 1788. Over the next fifty years or so, many other zebras were described by naturalists and explorers. Because of the great variation in coat patterns (no two zebras are alike), taxonomists were left with a great number of described “species”, and no easy way to tell which of these were true species, which were subspecies, and which were simply natural variants. Long before this confusion was sorted out, the quagga had been hunted to extinction for meat, hides, and to preserve feed for domesticated stock. The last wild quagga was probably shot in the late 1870s, and the last specimen in captivity died on August 12, 1883 at the Artis Magistra zoo in Amsterdam.
Because of the great confusion between different zebra species, particularly among the general public, the quagga had become extinct before it was realized that it appeared to be a separate species. The quagga was the first extinct creature to have its DNA studied. Recent genetic research at the Smithsonian Institution has demonstrated that the quagga was in fact not a separate species at all, but diverged from the extremely variable plains zebra.

Thylacine: the Tasmanian Tiger (extinct since 1936) [Wiki]
The Thylacine was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. Native to Australia and New Guinea, it is thought to have become extinct in the 20th century. It is commonly known as the Tasmanian Tiger (due to its striped back), and also known as the Tasmanian Wolf, and colloquially the Tassie (or Tazzy) Tiger or simply the Tiger. It was the last extant member of its genus, Thylacinus, although a number of related species have been found in the fossil record dating back to the early Miocene.
The Thylacine became extinct on the Australian mainland thousands of years before European settlement of the continent, but survived on the island of Tasmania along with a number of other endemic species such as the Tasmanian Devil. Intensive hunting encouraged by bounties is generally blamed for its extinction, but other contributory factors may have been disease, the introduction of dogs, and human encroachment into its habitat. Despite being officially classified as extinct, sightings are still reported.

Steller’s Sea Cow: the defenseless beast (extinct since 1768) [Wiki]
Formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea, it was discovered in in 1741 by the naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. The sea cow grew up to 7.9 meters (25.9 ft) long and weighed up to three tons, much larger than the manatee or dugong. It looked somewhat like a large seal, but had two stout forelimbs and a whale-like tail. According to Steller, “The animal never comes out on shore, but always lives in the water. Its skin is black and thick, like the bark of an old oak…, its head in proportion to the body is small…, it has no teeth, but only two flat white bones—one above, the other below”. It was completely tame, according to Steller. Fossils indicate that Steller’s Sea Cow was formerly widespread along the North Pacific coast, reaching south to Japan and California. Given the rapidity with which its last population was eliminated, it is likely that the arrival of humans in the area was the cause of its extinction elsewhere as well. There are still sporadic reports of sea cow-like animals from the Bering area and Greenland, so it has been suggested that small populations of the animal may have survived to the present day. This remains so far unproven.
Irish Deer: the largest deer that ever lived (extinct about 7,700 years ago) [Wiki - Photo: (c) The Field Museum, CK1T]
The Irish Elk or Giant Deer, was the largest deer that ever lived. It lived in Eurasia, from Ireland to east of Lake Baikal, during the Late Pleistocene and early Holocene. The latest known remains of the species have been carbon dated to about 5,700 BC, or about 7,700 years ago. The Giant Deer is famous for its formidable size (about 2.1 meters or 7 feet tall at the shoulders), and in particular for having the largest antlers of any known cervid (a maximum of 3.65 meters/12 feet from tip to tip and weighing up to 90 pounds).
Discussion of the cause of their extinction has still focused on the antlers (rather than on their overall body size), which may be due more to their impact on the observer than any actual property. Some have suggested hunting by man was a contributing factor in the demise of the Irish Elk as it was with many prehistoric megafauna, even assuming that the large antler size restricted the movement of males through forested regions or that it was by some other means a “maladaptation”. But evidence for overhunting is equivocal, and as a continental species, it would have co-evolved with humans throughout its existence and presumably have adapted to their presence.
Caspian Tiger: the third largest (extinct since 1970) [Wiki]
The Caspian tiger or Persian tiger was the westernmost subspecies of tiger, found in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Caucasus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan until it apparently became extinct in the 1970s. Of all the tigers known to the world, the Caspian tiger was the third largest.
The body of this subspecies was quite stocky and elongated with strong legs, big wide paws and unusually large claws. The ears were short and small, and gave the appearance of being without hair on the tips. Around the cheeks the Caspian tiger was generously furred and the rest of its fur was long and thick. The colouration resembled that of the Bengal tiger. Male Caspian tigers were very large and weighed 169-240 kg. Females were not as large, weighing 85-135 kg. There are still occasional claims of the Caspian tiger being sighted.

Aurochs: a very large type of cattle (extinct since 1627) [Wiki]One of Europe’s most famous extinct animals, the aurochs or urus (Bos primigenius) were a very large type of cattle. Aurochs evolved in India some two million years ago, migrated into the Middle East and further into Asia, and reached Europe about 250,000 years ago.
By the 13th century A.D., the aurochs’ range was restricted to Poland, Lithuania, Moldavia, Transylvania and East Prussia. The right to hunt large animals on any land was restricted to nobles and gradually to the royal household. As the population of aurochs declined, hunting ceased but the royal court still required gamekeepers to provide open fields for the aurochs to graze in. The gamekeepers were exempted from local taxes in exchange for their service and a decree made poaching an aurochs punishable by death. In 1564, the gamekeepers knew of only 38 animals, according to the royal survey. The last recorded live aurochs, a female, died in 1627 in the Jaktorów Forest, Poland. The skull was later taken by the Swedish Army and is now the property of Livrustkammaren in Stockholm.
In the 1920s two German zookeepers, the brothers Heinz and Lutz Heck, attempted to breed the aurochs back into existence (see breeding back) from the domestic cattle that were their descendants. Their plan was based on the conception that a species is not extinct as long as all its genes are still present in a living population. The result is the breed called Heck Cattle, ‘Recreated Auroras’, or ‘Heck Aurochs’, which bears an incomplete resemblance to what is known about the physiology of the wild auroras.

Great Auk: largest of all auks (extinct since 1844) [Wiki]
The Great Auk was the only species in the genus Penguins, flightless giant auks from the Atlantic, to survive until recent times, but is extinct today. It was also known as gatefold, or penguin. Standing about 75 centimeters or 30-34 inches high and weighing around 5 kg, the flightless Great Auk was the largest of the auks. It had white and glossy black feathers. In the past, the Great Auk was found in great numbers on islands off eastern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Ireland and Great Britain, but it was eventually hunted to extinction. Remains found in Floridan maddens suggest that at least occasionally, birds ventured that far south in winter as recently as in the 14th century.

Cave Lion: one of the largest lions ever (extinct 2,000 years ago) [Wiki]
The cave lion, also known as the European or Eurasian cave lion, is an extinct subspecies of lion known from fossils and a wide variety of prehistoric art. This subspecies was one of the largest lions. An adult male, which was found in 1985 near Siegfried (Germany), had a shoulder height of around 1.2 m and a length of 2.1 m without a tail, which is about the same size as a very big modern lion. This male was even exceeded by other specimens of this subspecies. Therefore this cat may have been around 5-10% bigger than modern lions. It apparently went extinct about 10,000 years ago, during the Warm glaciation, though there are some indications it may have existed as recently as 2,000 years ago, in the Balkans.

Dodo: the archetype of extinct species (extinct since late 17th century) [Wiki]
The Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) was a flightless bird that lived on the island of Mauritius. Related to pigeons and doves, it stood about a meter tall (three feet), lived on fruit and nested on the ground. The dodo has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century. It is commonly used as the archetype of an extinct species because its extinction occurred during recorded human history, and was directly attributable to human activity. The adjective phrase “as dead as a dodo” means undoubtedly and unquestionably dead. The verb phrase “to go the way of the dodo” means to become extinct or obsolete, to fall out of common usage or practice, or to become a thing of the past.

You might know what is a storm but not tropical storm. A tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a large low-pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and heavy rain. Tropical cyclones strengthen when water evaporated from the ocean is released as the saturated air rises, resulting in condensation of water vapor contained in the moist air. They are fueled by a different heat mechanism than other cyclonic windstorms such as nor’easter, European windstorms, and polar lows. The characteristic that separates tropical cyclones from other cyclonic systems is that at any height in the atmosphere, the center of a tropical cyclone will be warmer than its surroundings; a phenomenon called “warm core” storm systems.

The term “tropical” refers both to the geographical origin of these systems, which usually form in tropical regions of the globe, and to their formation in maritime tropical air masses. The term “cyclone” refers to such storms’ cyclonic nature, with counterclockwise wind flow in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise wind flow in the Southern Hemisphere. The opposite direction of the wind flow is a result of the Coriolis force. Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by names such as hurricane (/?h?r?ke?n/, /?h?r?k?n/), typhoon, tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, and simply cyclone.

The tropical storm last December 17, 2011 was terrible for the people in Villia Alegre Batinguel, Valencia, Tejeros, Sibulan, Banica River, Candau-ay, and Cadawinonan because some of the people there were drawn and their items and their house were washed away too. Luckily the people living on top are safe. Mama was going around and I was with her to buy some food. When we are near the river-side, mama sends me home just to be sure I will be safe so I went to the top ground and took some pictures there. Mama also brought with her a camera so she can take pictures near the river side.

Mama said that the victims need some help so we made a list on what will we buy for the victims there. In the chart are the things we bought:

Each family will receive a pack of the things above. The Thursday Club is the one managing the giving and buying.

After the flood around 10 days after went to the river-side to be sure whose houses are really washed away. Some even just made small tents and use their things carefully. We list their names so in the afternoon we can give some goodies. Next day we give the small kids some toys. And we keep on giving each place something. After giving we took pictures on their happy face.

We were tired yet happy because we know we helped a lot of people. Now I learn that helping feels better than receiving.

Kuya jellyfish’s real name is Johannes Franciscus Kreemers. He was born on the 4th of July 1944. He lived in Apo Vista Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental. He died in the age of 67. He has a beautiful wife but they don’t have any kid/s.

Here are some numbers I can give you in case of your need. Holy Child Hospital (035)225-4841, Silliman University Medical Hospital (035)225-0841, Provincial Hospital (035)225 2614, Red Cross (035)225-2835

The sad story happened on November 5, 2011 because of a motorcycle accident. My papa received a message from the wife of Kuya jellyfish that he had an accident and is in the hospital. The doctor said he need type A- blood. Papa was so very worried about what happened. He started calling all his friends for help. In the other hand mama was calling her friends and the other hospital, here are some numbers I some were not available because it was close and time was running so she ended up with a woman who has a son willing to donate some type A- blood. Mama and papa went to pick the young man who was willing to donate some blood and he lives near Science High (a public school).

In the evening mama is home around 11pm, and papa he went home after few hours, he park his motorcycle in the garden and went to the balcony and start crying that was the very first time I saw papa cry and he told us that Kuya Jellyfish was in heaven because he is a very good to everyone he knows. After dinner we went to bed and saw papa crying and we hug him to let him be comfortable. That moment I know his tears were from his heart because I know he loves Kuya Jellyfish as a friend. We all cry in the bedroom remembering all the goodness and happiness he gave to all of his friends and us.

The next day we went to Saint Peters Chapel in Bacong to visit Kuya Jellyfish when we arrived we saw the wife of Kuya Jellyfish crying next to the coffin. We came hug her so tight while crying too. I was sitting next to them and start crying we felt very sad and weak. Some guests came and start crying next to the coffin. I did not have a chance to take a picture because of my weak body. Papa came with an acoustic guitar. He said papa and Kuya Jellyfish said they will jam along together because Kuya Jellyfish can play the trumpet and since he was gone papa played the guitar sadly beside Kuya Jellyfish’s coffin. All the guests of Kuya Jellyfish started to cry. Some of the guests went to the mall to buy something for the guests.

I know Kuya Jellyfish is a very good person and his soul will be in heaven and I know even if he is old he will never forget his special friends.

We love you very much as a friend.

One day papa received a message from Kuya Gunther (the owner of CASABLANCA )and his wife Ate Felly (the celebrant), that we are invited to Ate Felly’s Birthday Party. The day of the party we prepare ourselves for the party. We greeted our friends there but we went to the Birthday woman first and greeted her happily. We were given food, dessert, and drinks.

We enjoy binging in the party. The kids went to the kid’s room and watched TV,and let our parents enjoy their drinks while they are talking and some older people were drinking beer some were singing karaoke and playing billiard, some of papa and mama’s friends were playing table tennis and I only saw Kuya Gunther, Kuya Uwe (owner of Dumaguete cars rental). We had dinner there too because ate Felly invite me and my brother to eat dinner before we leave. We went home with kuya Marcel a friend of papa and mama. We went home happily.

We enjoy the special birthday of our friend Ate Felly.

This year we have a celebration that is a very memorable day. It was the baptism ceremony of our friend Kuya Patrick and Ate Crislyn’s son, Kennedy Tiburio O’Connell.

We were invited by our friends Kuya Patrick and Ate Crislyn in their son’s baptism ceremony. Kuya Patrick and Ate Crislyn are friends of my parents. We were also given an invitation card for us to know when and where it will be held. It was written in the card that it will be held in the St. Agustine Church, Bacong, Negros Oriental at 11 am, October 9, 2011. Before the day of the celebration we prepared our clothes for swimming because we are going to celebrate a party after the ceremony.

The following day Papa and Kuya rode the motor while Mama and I rode an easy ride (a vehicle smaller than a jeep). On our way there was a small rain that we were almost soaking wet because of that. When we arrived at the church we went inside quietly so that we will not to disturb other sleepy babies who will be baptized after a short talk. we saw other friends of Papa and Mama some of them are young lolo Roger, Kuya Gunther, Ate Fely, their son Adrian, Kuya John, Ate Analie, Kuya Stave, Ate Rowena, Kuya Larry, Ate Ronie. For me I was felling sleepy after the boring talk of one of a lady who was inside the church.

After the priest finished the baptizing of the babies we went to the nearby beach. We had a short party, had lunch and some of the ladies were singing karaoke (a TV structure but the lyrics are there and the music only), while the kids are playing in the beach. We wanted to swim but the water was full of sea weeds and there are lots of stones in the beach.

After the ceremony we went to Bogarts and Papa had a beer. We eat dinner there and went home happily celebrating the baptism of our friend.

We enjoy the amazing adventure, even if the mass was boring. We kids also enjoy the new experience of real goodness we made in the baptism celebration.

Love Daisy

In 22nd of September is my Birthday and I was so excited to celebrate it. More presents are so exiting to open to with curiosity what is inside it.

On my Birthday in school some of my friends said “Happy Birthday” and they sang to me inside the classroom. During lunch mama went to school with bags full of sprinkles (chocolate cookies flavor sprinkled with powder sugar). We happily eat lunch together. Mama said I should distribute some sprinkles to my classmates and to some teachers. When we went back to the classroom I saw near my bag a small gift bag and it was from my best friend Christine. When I open my present I was to see a red shiny belt and a shiny hairband with beads on it. I thank her for the wonderful present. I went home during dismissal and greet Mama, Papa, kuya and his friend Ridim and I thank them for the nice celebration. I changed my clothes and kuya put a laundry short of his in my eyes so I can’t see the surprise.

When he took of the short from my eyes I was surprise to see a cake. With a picture of Princess Jasmine (a princess from the movie Aladdin). I sliced the cake in to pieces and served it to Mama, Papa, kuya and his friend Ridim. After eating some cake I open first my cards and then the gifts. I enjoy very much my presents. We brought kuya’s friend Ridim back to his home. While we went to Mooon Cafe and restaurant near the boulevard and ate dinner there. We enjoyed the dinner there. Before we received our 2nd order we meet the owner and talk for a while. When they left the restaurant he ordered some workers to sing a “Happy Birthday” to me. I was glad for what really happened. Papa paid the bill and we went home happily and sleep.

That Saturday we wanted to go in Sea Forest a nice place with lots of swimming pool but it was occupied so we tried in forest camp. We rented a car from Kuya Uwe the owner of Dumaguete City Cars. We went there happily and took loots of pictures and swam in the very cold water. We got hungry so we decided to buy some Chooks to Go and eat it.

We got a little bored so we went Zamboanguita Zoo we drove for a few minutes and we paid the entrance for just 10 pesos and we move around the zoo and bought some biscuits and give a little piece of it to the monkey deer. We also saw hawks, turtles, crocodiles, Guinea pigs, noisy ducks, parrots, and dragon.Papa was very naughty to the monkey while feeding it. It was fun we play in the children’s playground. We went to the museum and took lots of picture on the friendly python snake. Then we also took pictures on the other rare animals but preserved still we enjoyed it.

Passbooks are saving books where your money is safe in the bank and Mama wants my money safe there, so she wants me to open an account there but I was still too young to have my own account. A few days ago I finally could open my first own passbook account.

In the afternoon we went to PS Bank here in Dumaguete to open a saving account for me, but my money should be 5000 Peso to open the saving account but I only have 990 Peso so we look for another place to go and went to China Bank. It is just near PS Bank and near to Hotel Palwa. After we went in we sat on a chair and waited until our number was called. Next to me was sleepy foreign guy. Mama bumped his chair accidentally and the guy smiled. We were the last in the row and were very bored waiting. I started to talk to the guy that I am not so bored while waiting, so we talked and talked and talked.

When finally our number was called I went with mama to the counter and sat down. After our introduction, the girl of china Bank gave me 3 papers to fill up, where she highlighted the parts I need to answer. While I was answering, the highlighted questions, there was a part with the word “spouse” marked and I asked mama what that means. She explained me with a smile that I need to fill in my husband’s name. I told the bank employees Ate Joy and Ate Beth that I am still too young to be married. They explained me that I just need to leave it blank and apologized, as they are used to make those marks at the places on the paper. We had a bit more conversation and after that I got my first passbook of my first own bank account.

Now I know my money is safe and I had a lot of fun opening my first bank account at China Bank. Now I only need to safe more money.

Love
